MUS503 - Performance 1

  1. Prepare for and perform a range of original and re-arranged material.
  2. Safely set-up and operate a small public address system.
  3. Effectively engage an audience using musicianship and stagecraft techniques.

DJEMP501 - DJ/EMP Performance

  1. Plan for and perform at a series of external performances
  2. Prepare for and perform a series of broadcasts covering a range of curated material.

DJEMP502 - Electronic Music Production 2

  1. Collaborate on the recording of an original composition in an electronic music context.
  2. Produce complex music and sound related works.
  3. Apply principles of sound perception to audio playback.

DJEMP503 - DJEMP Technology

  1. Describe the principles of sound manipulation and operation using DJ and electronic music equipment. 
  2. Effectively operate DJ and electronic music hardware and software in defined contexts.

DJEMP504 - DJEMP Music Theory

  1. Identify and document musical elements including pitch, rhythm, and harmony in a range of contexts.
  2. Apply music theory rudiments to programming music using keyboard skills.

 CTX501 - Contextual Studies 1

  1. Describe the relevance of Tikanga Māori to creative practice. 
  2. Discuss historical, technical and socio-cultural influences on contemporary music genres and artists. 
  3. Critically review literature and other sources of information.

 CAS501 - Creative Arts Industry Studies

  1. Analyse and apply principles and practices of small business for self-employment in the audio, music, and related industries.
  2. Analyse industry structures, practices and relevant legislation including copyright.
Graduates can pursue employment and/or career opportunities within the DJ, music and related industries including:
· DJ performance in established entertainment venues, festivals, television, social, advertising, music industry and promotional events
· DJ performance broadcasts on-line or on commercial radio stations
· Performing as MC in established entertainment venues, social, advertising, music industry and promotional events
· Commercially-released Electronic music as producer or artist
· Composing/arranging
· Organising a gig
· Assisting in production of live or recorded music
· Music/media business occupations
This qualification may also lead to employment outside of the Performing Arts industries through the use of transferable skills. This could include, but not be limited to:
· Sales and marketing
· Media design
· Tourism

Graduates can pursue employment and/or career opportunities within the DJ, music and related industries including:

(Under 20 years of age) University Entrance

NCEA Level 3 Preference will be given to applicants with Merit or Excellence passes in Physics, Mathematics, and Music.

Special Entry may be granted where evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme.

Special Admission Application by Mature Entry (20 years of age and above)

Consideration will be given to applicants aged 20 years or older who do not meet the entry criteria if they can demonstrate a history of work, industry experience which in the opinion of the Programme Managers exhibits a likelihood of success in the programme of study.

Consideration will be given to students who progress through other TPP/MAINZ/SIT programme pathways (e.g. Foundation Sound and Music).

Applicants may be required to attend an interview or provide a portfolio of audio related work.

To successfully complete and be awarded the New Zealand Diploma in DJ and Electronic Music (Level 5) students must complete the prescribed programme of study and attain a minimum of 120 credits.
